Every quarter I get a chance to teach a lit class I like to drag out the Youtube and show a few choice excerpts from literary infamy. Literature as something created by a living, distorted hand is one of its most obviously enticing qualities. The imbalance of certain writers makes their intellectual accomplishments mean more to me.  I worry that we’re becoming too polite, too media savvy. I want to be surprised by the wisdom of the wild man.
